No we do not go there for sushi, we go there for the shaved ice, which is very good. They import the ice from Kanazawa, Japan and shave the ice nicely. Home made sauce and fresh ingredients are definitely enhanced the shaved ice even more.

This is a review of Jin Sho’s summer kakigori pop up “Ice Days.” Hands down this is the best kakigori you can find in the US. I’ve been to many kakigori places especially in Ginza and Jin Sho easily rivals and in many cases surpass the kakigori places in Japan. Their ice is also imported from a specialty ice shop in Kanazawa. Initially I thought this was a gimmick but the ice texture is so ethereally flaky, I’m now a believer.

I’d been wanting to try Jin Sho for a while, especially after hearing it was reportedly a favorite of Steve Jobs. Overall, the experience was solid, but it didn’t quite have that standout factor I was expecting -- particularly given that it was founded by two former Nobu executive chefs. The food was good, but the quality didn’t fully justify the price in my opinion. I also noticed that some of the seating felt a bit sticky, which took away from the overall dining experience. Overall, Jin Sho is a good restaurant, but it didn’t quite live up to the hype for me.

Jin Sho is not trendy, it's elegant and traditional. If you want fusion food or edgy rolls, this is not the place for you. If you like a simple, quiet restaurant with fresh and delicious dish, this place is perfect. I've never had a bad dish here.

At the heart of California Ave, it is not easy to find a "normal" Japanese sushi joint. Palo Alto is spoiled with ultra high-end omakase shops or extremely overpriced omakase-grade wannabes. To be honest, we went to Jin Sho thinking it'd be one of those. Jin Sho is a down-to-earth regular Japanese restaurant with sushi, sashimi, and other tapas as well as udon. They are also not terribly overpriced, considering that all other shops charge way more. They are definitely expensive, even more Bay Area standards but again, you are at the heart of California Ave. The interior is functional. Clean, and spread out. Nothing fancy. Just from those looks, you know you are grabbing a regular meal. The food is quite good. The fish was fresh. The sushi was well made - definitely done by someone who truly cares about nigiris and the right technique than trying to make as many as possible in the shortest period of time. These sushi and sashimi were not the haughty omakase grade with fancy frills, knife cuts, and torched with random sauces. These were down-to-earth honest sushi made with good rice and a hint of wasabi. And sometimes, that is just enough. You just want a hearty meal and that's wha
